Come and sit a ‘spell’….

One of my favorite projects was recently featured in the Baton Rouge, LA publication of House and Home…we were thrilled to have been included in their monthly column “Postcards from the World of Design” where they feature works by designers outside of Louisiana.  It is one space of an entire house project for clients that I have worked with for more than a decade.  I thought it would be fun to show some more of the wonderful details of this small, but dreamy space…

This room is actually a very narrow space, that connects to the guest bedroom through a guest bath.  The challenge was to provide comfortable and plentiful seating for an area that seemingly could only handle a loveseat.  I knew that some type of custom sectional was going to be our best bet, but there was another problem….the hallway and doorway leading into the room were extremely narrow and awkward.  Thankfully, the folks at VERELLEN were up to the challenge…we made paper templates to make sure each piece could fit into the door, and on the install day one of the capable VERELLEN workers arrived with tools to finish the corner piece on site.  Not many companies will go to these lengths, and that is only one of the many reasons I LOVE working with VERELLEN!

While it is meant to be a private sitting room for the homeowners frequent out-of-town company, when we installed the room, the clients teenage daughter came home from school, jumped on the sectional and announced “This room is mine!”, and it has remained her favorite space to study, take naps, and chill out…that is, when there is no company!

These are the kind of details I love, and obsess over…..trim, nailheads, stitching details, stain finish……AAAHHHH!

One of my all time favorite chests from Bungalow 5

In this home, barely a room has escaped my, and my clients, obsession with chandeliers…this is one of a pair of antique light fixtures that I found on a buying trip…

the other hangs in the adjoining Guest Bedroom…

So, what do you think, don’t you think this is the perfect perch for reading a book, or watching a movie??

What are your favorite things in this room??  We’d love to hear from you!
